2026 men’s world cup: 3 Giant Nations Host
This upcoming tournament will be one of a kind for its going to be hosted by three nations. The
23rd FIFA World Cup in 2026, will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three American countries
which are Canada, Mexico, and the United States. A situation witnessed only after 24years.
The three North American countries will host a total of 80 matches in this tournament, out of
which Canada and Mexico will host 10 matches each. The United States on its own will host 60
matches, including every match from the quarterfinals upward, while neighboring Canada and
Mexico will each host 10 matches. All the matches to be played in the 16 North American host
stadia.
It’s equally going to be one of a kind because for the first time, it will include 48 teams, rather
than 32. It will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be hosted by more than one nation.
One of a kind again because Mexico turns out to be the first nation to host or co-host the men’s
world cup three times, that is in 1970, 1986 and the upcoming tournament in 2026.
Unique again because Canada will be co-hosting the men’s tournament for the first time. The
event will return to its traditional after which the edition of 2022 was in November and
December.
Will it last?
The million question has remained. Will a single country ever host the World Cup again?
Or its going to make 24 years again before hosting the various nations again? The future is yet to
be told. In 2017, FIFA said the host nation for the 2026 World Cup would qualify automatically
and its slot would be taken from the allocation of its confederation.
However, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said for the three hosts Canada, USA and Mexico,
being given automatic qualifications is still to be decided.
It is important to note that the distance between these three nations is so wide but truth be told
everyone is waiting to see how this tournament will be. For sure, it shall Mark the history of
men’s world cup 2026 and be engraved in the minds of football lovers.
